What’s good in Harlem? Masons serve needy families

On December 13, 2009 by D. Bell

Masons from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York (MWPHGLNY) fed hundreds of families during its annual “Thanksgiving Community Feeding.” The Thanksgiving Community Feeding provides free meals to needy families every year. Masons from all over New York City gathered in Harlem to help out. Preparations for the program began much earlier than usual due to the expected turnout, which was amongst the largest since the program began.

Although we were prepared for many more families to come, seeing so many of them who did, became a glaring reminder of how hard the recession has hit Harlem in particular, said R.W. Edward Swire from MWPHGLNY and the lead coordinators for the Thanksgiving Community Feeding this year.  “The program was a lot of work, and we could not have pulled it off so smoothly without all the volunteer help from the Masons, Eastern Stars and other important volunteers.
