That Picnic Place
Sweltering summer temperatures make the thought of cooking in your already overheated apartment or sweating over a sizzling hot grill pure torture. But you must eat, right? So why not have a picnic? You might argue that picnics are too much work between having to go food shopping, then packing the basket, and finally lugging the food to the park. Thank goodness there is That Picnic Place to do all the dreaded work for you!
That Picnic Place specializes in creating customized picnic baskets for everyone from singles to families. The business was founded in 2008 by two friends, Antija & Marlana, who combined their love of picnics with the need for convenience. “Convenience is the key word,” says Antija Moore the CEO of the growing business in an interview last month. She finds that most of their clients are men who order the baskets at the last-minute. “Often they are ordering a basket for a second or third date, an anniversary, or a proposal.” The most popular basket among the gentlemen is appropriately named, “A lil’ romance.” For the price of a nice dinner and less than the cost of tickets to a Broadway show, a fella can impress his date with a choice of gourmet sandwiches or salads (or mix & match), desserts, a bottle of wine, rose petals, a blanket, and a“novelty” item. The food is prepared by Guy & Gallard, a name synonymous with quality.
That Picnic Place is unique in that it is the only year-round, all-inclusive picnic basket delivery service in New York. They deliver to homes, hotels, businesses, and parks. What makes them different from local businesses that offer similar services is that they will actually do everything for you, including customize your basket for an additional cost. Other businesses might sell gourmet fruit and cheese baskets, or pack a basket that you provide, but you will still have to BYOB – bring your own blanket, basket, and bottle.
When we asked Antija about the most unusual customized order they received, she told us it was a $300 basket ordered by a customer who was very specific about the items that were to go in the basket. That Picnic Place receives orders from businessmen as far away as London who want to arrange a memorable moment for a wife or lover in New York, to local businesses who order gift baskets for clients. The specialty company also offers wedding packages for rehearsal dinners and bachelorette parties.
Here’s how it works: customers can place an order online 24 hours or more in advance. The basket will be delivered directly to you between 11 AM and 9PM seven days a week, in all 5 boroughs. It’s really that easy! These picnic baskets are perfect for a free film in the park, a Jazzmobile concert, or Sundae Sermon.
