Despite this week’s disabling snow storm the long awaited Aloft Hotel opened its doors to weary travelers. The Harlem hotel is the first of the Aloft hotels to open in New York city and it is the first major hotel to open in Harlem in over 40 years.
Don’t expect flowery bedspreads and bolted down TVs in an Aloft room. The brand is known for “urban-influenced, modern, open and vibrant designs.” Rooms start at $239 a night, which is reasonable for New York. From now through March 31, 2011, guests who book a room at Aloft Harlem will earn double Starwood Preferred Guest points for every stay, as well as a $20 voucher for redemption at the hotel’s w xyz bar or the fuel by Aloft 24/7 pantry.
One of the high tech features of the Harlem location is the roll out its innovative Smart Check-In program at Aloft Harlem. Smart Check-In will allow guests to skip the front desk and head directly to their rooms with a special RFID-powered keycard. The rooms offer wired and wireless Internet access and plug & play, a one-stop connectivity solution for multiple electronic gadgetry such as PDAs, cell phones, mp3 players and laptops – all linked to a large, 42” flat-panel HDTV-ready television for optimal sound and viewing. The Aloft Harlem is already all booked up for New Year’s Eve.
