Harlem Lanes is closing this week
Rumors circulated late last year that Harlem Lanes was in financial trouble. A couple of news reports confirmed those rumors. Then, to add insult to injury the lanes were the target of a break in February of this year. We were hoping that the lanes could hold on and their situation would stabilize.
Unfortunately, that was not how it worked out. Tonight Harlem Lanes posted on their Facebook page that they will be closing the doors to the lanes this week and selling memorabilia to the public. This is a double whammy since we are also losing Hue-Man Bookstore this week. We could have come up with some cutesy title for this post that used bowling analogies, but this is a real loss to the Harlem community. The people on social media who read the post were pretty much devastated by the news.
The message to Harlem Lanes patrons read:
Join Harlem Lanes as we say goodbye to 2116 Seventh Avenue! We invite each and
every one of you to come and spend our last week with all of us here. As always, we will keep you posted on each daily event we have up until our Final Saturday Bash!
***We will be having an Out of Business Sale open to the public where you can buy actual memorabilia from the lanes (Flat Screen HD TVs, Office Equipment, Etc.) all this week up until Sunday 12:00pm.
Cash only Please! Come get your goodies while you can!***
So come say your final goodbye to the last man standing employees and honor us with one last game!
Sincerely,
The Original Harlem Lanes
Harlem Lanes will be open for the rest of the week, so if you can make time you should stop by and bid them farewell and best wishes. The best of luck to Sharon and Gail. You made history, ladies! We are so proud of you and we know that you will have success with your future ventures.

Please leave your thoughts about the closing of two very important Harlem businesses in the same week below in our comments section.

Damn, this really saddens me. I remember when this place opened. What a shame. I hope they’ve laid the template for other businesses to invest in the community.
I remember how happy everyone in the neighborhood was to have a positive place to go. That excited started to fade away once the novelty had worn off.
