What’s New in Harlem?

On November 18, 2012 by D. Bell

Back in October we posted pictures on our Facebook Page of some of the new Harlem businesses that are cropping up. Here is a run down and current status of each.

Maison Harlem is Harlem’s newest French dining destination. Maison Harlem has recently expanded its dinner menu to include breakfast/brunch and lunch. Looking at the breakfast menu, I had flashbacks of high school French class when Madame Riley brought in a continental breakfast for us to experience a taste of Paris.

Sweet Mama’s Soul Food Salad Bar is located near 145th Street and Lenox Avenue. Status:  open. See more.

Julisa’s is a bar and lounge that quietly opened up sometime this summer. It is located on Lenox near 135th Street. Status: open.

Shell’s Bistro is located in the space that formerly housed the popular Den. Harlemites are anxiously awaiting to find out if Shell’s can live up to its predecessor. Shell’s Bistro is located at 2150 Fifth Avenue at 132nd Street. Status: open for dinner.

Island Spice moved from their location on Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd and 119th up to 147th and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. which is much larger space near the #3 train terminal.  While there is a full dining room, most of the business when I pass on my way home from work is take out. Island Spice 2537 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd. at 147th Street. www.eatjamrock.com Status: open.

Harlem BBQ Company is in the former location of the long standing Sherman’s BBQ at 2509 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard near 145th Street. Curious to see how they make out and who is behind this new venture. Status: open.
