WHAT IS UPTOWN FLAVOR?

UPTOWNflavor™ was launched in February 2006 and has quickly become the premier online spot for experiencing the rich flavors that Harlem has to offer. Articles and reviews about restaurants and businesses that extend from 96th Street to the northernmost tip of Manhattan are posted daily.

WHY IS THIS SITE A BLOG?

UPTOWNflavor is powered by WordPress in the form of a weblog or a blog for short. We chose this format because UPTOWNflavor is about stimulating conversation and interacting with our readers. The blog format allows us to hear from you directly and it allows you to communicate with each other – almost like a virtual Town Hall meeting.

Each day we post topics that are relevant to Harlem. You, the reader, will then leave your comments about those topics. We will also occasionally post ‘Notes from the Editor’ in response to questions, hot topics or whatever strikes our fancy that day.

WHY DID YOU CALL THE SITE UPTOWNflavor™?

The name was partially inspired by famous Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes.  Hughes penned a poem called “Harlem Sweeties“  that includes the line All those sweet colors Flavor Harlem of mine! The name was also partially inspired by the slang term for swagger.  Folks in Harlem do things a little differently than those who live downtown, therefore they’ve got ‘uptown flavor’.

CAN I SEND A TIP ABOUT SOMETHING I HEARD?

Yes! Please send your tips to uptownflavor[at]gmail.com. When you email UPTOWNflavor we reserve the right to print your correspondence as content at our discretion unless you specifically tell us not to up front. We make every effort to respond to every email we receive.

CAN I SUBMIT AN EVENT?

We love receiving your event submissions! Please send them to tips[at]uptownflavor[dot]com. All events are subject to editorial discretion. Events should be submitted in a web-friendly format (example: event flier in jpeg or gif with hyperlink to website.) We cannot guarantee the posting of every event that you submit due to time and staff constraints. As a courtesy, please consider making a love donations in any amount to our pay pal account if we have posted your event(s). *Free and charitable events will be given priority over for-profit events. If you have a for-profit event, consider becoming a sponsor instead. Please give us at least two weeks of lead time when submitting your event. We typically do not posts same day submissions.

CAN I SUBMIT CONTENT TO UPTOWNflavor?

We would love to work with you if you are a writer, photographer, graphic artist .or marketer. If you are interested in submitting content to UPTOWNflavor™ please visit our SUBMISSIONS page for specific details.

DO YOU ACCEPT ADVERTISING?

UPTOWNflavor™cannot accept advertising at this time but we do welcome sponsors dedicated to keeping the site going. DO YOU REVIEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES?

If you would like to submit a product for review please send books or other merchandise to our mailing address (contact us via email). Products appearing on the site are subject to final approval by the editor.

We are presently our own independently run entity, but would be open to collaborating with publishers in larger circles. We have been linked to several large online publications including Vibe.com, New York Times and New York Magazine.
